Korea Drama - Golden Bride /黃金新娘

Starhub Channel 55 has just started showing this Korean Drama every Monday to Friday, 7pm and i have watched 1 episode and find the plot quite interesting and refreshing. I also remember reading a newspaper article sometime ago about Vietnamese brides in Korea having difficulty adapting to married life with their Korean husband and how some were abused by their husbands or in-laws which makes me curious about this drama showing on tv. However the timing clashes with "Heart of Nineteen" which i have been faithfully following for sometime and i have to watch this drama on Channel 255 which shows "Golden Bride" again on 10 pm.








In this 2007 family and romance drama (64 episodes), the main character Jin Joo (Lee Young Ah) is a half Korean and Vietnamese girl who marries a Korean man, Kang Jun Woo (Song Chang Ui), in order to come to Korea to look for her biological father who abandoned her so as to fulfil the wish of her mother who is losing her sights soon. The drama is not only about her searching for her dad but also about the cultural differences between her and her husband's family.





The story moves on to Jun Woo's family and the Kim family. There is bad blood between the two families as Jun Woo's mother, Jung Han Sook hated her friend of 20 years, Yang Ok Kyung (Kim family) who had stolen her boyfriend when they were young. Han Sook cannot stand Ok Kyung for always boasting about her rich family and successful son Young Min. The rivalry is even more fueled since Ji Young (Ok Kyung's daughter-in-law) is still in love with her ex-boyfriend, Jun Woo, even though she is married to Young Min.

Kang Sae Mi is Jun Woo's sister and Kim Young Soo is Young Min's younger brother. They want to get married but both families oppose their marriage which leads to the two young lovers living together and expecting a baby out of wedlock. Kang Won Mi is the thoughtless, old maid elder sister of Jun Woo.
