We've all been encouraged to put painful experiences behind us quickly, but a new study from the University of Missouri finds that taking time out to be blue could make you happier in the long run. "Negative feelings shouldn't be ignored," says lead researcher Professor Laura King. "These thoughts help us reassess." Pay attention to them and you'll know where to go next. "Being happy isn't about forgetting the past. It's about learning from it and discovering ways to have a better future," says Prof King.
