I stayed up till 4.30am earlier to watch the result of the Presidential Election being announced live on TV and it was a disappointing result as i had voted for Dr Tan Cheng Bock and believes he would be the best person to unite Singaporeans with his campaign slogan "Think Singaporeans First" and he would be a real People's President with his proven track records.
I also admire the man for not being afraid to speak up for things that he feels are unjust. I also trust that he would not go against the government for the sake of just opposing if he is President. He has earned the respects of both people who are pro government and those who are pro opposition which is no easy feat!
Its a pity that he lost to Dr Tony Tan by just 0.34% (7269 votes) and he had garnered 34.85% while Dr Tony Tan got 35.19% of the valid votes. I'm proud that i was among the 73,7138 fellow Singaporeans who believe in the good old doctor and thank him from the bottom of my heart for the hard work and it was a good fight and he showed good results despite not getting the support of the union and government.
It will be a challenging job for the new 7th president of Singapore to unite the people in this changing political landscape and i wish him the best of luck and hope he would be able to really think of "the Last, Lost and the Least".
