Channel U has started showing this 28 episodes, 2009 Korean romance drama yesterday after popular Korean drama "Dong Yi" ended at its weekday 7pm slot and i managed to catch its first episode and finds it interesting. Those who missed it should catch it tonight on TV ;) The drama maintained its top spot in viewer ratings for ten consecutive weeks in Korea.
Did any "Dong Yi" fans catch the drama too? I'm sure fans of actress Han Hyo Joo and Bae Soo Bin from "Dong Yi" will also be following the drama as it portray a different side of Han Hyo Joo and shows her versatility as an actress. However it seems that Bae Soo Bin is still going to be Han Hyo Joo's protector in the drama and always looking out for her but still losing her to someone else. Maybe they should have a new drama where the 2 of them will finally be able to act as a couple like Park Shin Hye and Jung Yong Hwa are doing in drama "Heartstrings" which i love watching ;)
Go Eun Sung’s (Han Hyo Joo) life is similar to Cinderella’s. After her father died, her step-mother, Baek Sung Hee, took away all of her assets and her younger brother, Eun Woo, suddenly disappears without a trace. Sung Hee is a selfish woman and does not care about her stepchildren. She only wish for the best for her own daughter. Despite this, Eun Sung did not give up on life and works really hard to fulfill her dreams. When the CEO of a food company, Jang Sook Ja, suffers amnesia and can’t remember who she is, Eun Sung takes her in. However, Eun Sung does not know that she is the grandmother of Sun Woo Hwan (Lee Seung Gi), the man who she switched bags with at the airport. How will their constant bickering lead them to realize that they care more about each other than they let on?
The first episode started with Eun Sung who is studying overseas in New York being called
back suddenly to Korea by her dad just 2 years into her studies. Meanwhile,
Sun Woo Hwan is also ordered to return to Korea by his grandmother after
studying abroad for 3 years in which he hardly studied. Koh
Pyeong-jung, who is Eun Sung's father, struggles to save his company
from going bankrupt. One day, his wallet is stolen by a thief along with
his ID and credit cards. The thief subsequently dies in a gas explosion
accident and the police, upon finding Koh Pyeong-jung’s wallet on him,
mistakenly identify him as Koh. So a death certificate for Koh
Pyeong-jung is promptly issued.
Koh decides to lay low and not tell his
family that he is alive to keep the creditors at bay for the time being.
But his second wife who is Eun Sung’s stepmother, collects the
insurance money that is paid out from his life insurance policy and then
kicks out her stepchildren Eun Sung and Eun Woo while moving into a
new home with her daughter Seung Mi. Eun Sung asks for assistance from
her friend Hyung Jin who always portrays himself as her boyfriend as he is interested in her and hopes to get her father's company once he marries her. However he cruelly turns her away when he finds her broke. Soon after her brother
Eun Woo, who is mentally retarded, goes missing. While searching for her
brother, Eun Sung works as a waitress at a nightclub and meets Park
Joon Sae (Bae Soo Bin), a friend of Hyung Jin. Joon Sae helps Eun Sung as
much as he can.
A year later, Eun Sung is still looking for her brother
and decides to transfer to a Korean college. So she quits her waitress
job and starts selling dumplings to make enough money to pay for her
tuition. Meanwhile, Jang Sook-ja, the founder of a food company, becomes
deeply disappointed in her grandson Woo Hwan who has no direction in his
life and is a selfish spoiled rich kid who does not care about her food company. So to gather her thoughts on what to do about her grandson, she
visits her old neighborhood in the poor section of the city where she
encounters Eun Sung who is selling dumplings.
She hears about
Eun Sung’s hardships and immediately sees that Eun Sung is an honest,
hardworking person with a heart made of gold. So to test Eun Sung’s
mettle, she moves in with her for a month, sharing a tiny room.
Afterwards, Jang Sook-ja makes up her mind to appoint Eun Sung as the
heir of her food company and brings her home to the horror of Woo Hwan! No one in Woo Hwan's family likes Eun Sung as they think of her as a greedy person
who only cares about their grandmother due to money. Even though deep in her heart, Eun Sung doesn't want to get the
inheritance, however, she decides to help the grandmother to achieve her
dreams of increasing the profit of the 2nd Jang Sook Ja beef soup
restaurant to 20% as well as teach Woo Hwan the real value of life.
One day, Woo Hwan is asked to work at one of his grandmother's beef soup
restaurant even though he doesn't want to. Much to his dismay, Eun Sung
also works at the same restaurant. His grandmother then cut all his
allowances, only giving him 10000 WON per day as
transport fare & pocket money and he learns the hard way of how to be a better person and opens up his most secret & painful memory of his life which was the main reason he became a rebellious person.
With the help of Eun Sung, his rebellious attitude towards life gradually changes and at the end, he grows into a mature man who is worthy to receive the most prized inheritance, his grandmother's pure heart & soul towards life.
Joon Sae first meets Eun Sung when she was just back from her overseas
study. He is also the person who helps Eun Sung financially and every
time she runs into any problem, Joon Sae will always be there for her.
One day, he confesses that "he does not want to be her oppa (elder brother), but he wants to be her man". Unfortunately, Eun Sung only cares for him as her oppa. He is a kind man who loves Eun Sung unconditionally and is a rich kid who
wants to succeed on his own effort. He followed his heart and opens his
own restaurant. His father, Director Park (Choi Jung Woo) is one of
the manager at Woo Hwan's Grandmother's Company.
Yoo Seung Mi (Moon Chae Won)
is Eun Sung's step-sister. However, they are not close because Eun Sung
studied overseas. Seung Mi loves Woo Hwan ever since he helped her when she
was bullied during high school time. On the other hand, Woo Hwan didn't realize that Seung Mi loves him and he
only cares for her as his little sister. For 8 years, Seung Mi tries her
best to express her love and to be there for Woo Hwan. However Woo Hwan never
opens up his heart for her. Seung Mi is a beautiful lady who
unfortunately, has to follow her mother's evil plan and it makes Woo Hwan
almost hates her due to all her lies.
Baek Sung Hee (Kim Mi Sook) is Seung Mi's mother. She is actually a great mother who wants to
do her best for her daughter's happiness - which is to marry Woo Hwan.
Unfortunately, her greed towards money makes her an evil person and she
evolves her kind-hearted daughter into a person who tells lies to the
person she loves the most. Her evil manipulation almost turns Eun Sung's life upside down and she
is jealous when Eun Sung gets to inherit the grandmother's company.
Moreover, she is also angry at the fact that Woo Hwan loves Eun Sung and not her daughter.
