More Pictures and Thoughts of Hong Kong Drama - The Gem of Life (Spoiler Alert!!)

The first thing i did when i got back from Beijing was to continue watching Hong Kong drama "The Gem of Life". I have watched till episode 72 and i did not really like how the plot has turned out so far. My favourite couple in the drama was initially Terrence and Constance and i was glad that they got married earlier although it makes the story less exciting after that. But the romance between Sylvia and Calvin makes the drama even more interesting and watchable. But all of a sudden, the story gets draggy when Sylvia ended up giving Calvin up to Catherine to save his business and marrying Sunny. What was even more irritating was Terrence and Constance ending up in divorce due to Elise's meddling. Then Derek's character appears again in Tibet and it seems as if he and Constance are fated to be together?? Then Terrence also appears in Tibet and Constance appears quite cold and cruel towards him.

The story then fast forwarded to 2 years later with Jessica controlling Martin's business as he was sick mentally. The plot seems to get more and more unrealistic and draggy with Martin dying and more meddling from Elise and her grandfather. I found out online that the drama had started off quite well and had peaked at 36 points. Unfortunately the contents of the series has been criticized for being too long and boring therefore the ratings have been dropping, even reaching 22 points.

It is said that TVB originally had a lot of confidence for the series "The Gem of Life" produced by Jonathan Chik as it has many Siu Sangs, Fa Dans such as Moses Chan, Bowie Lam, Ada Choi and Gigi Lai etc. It also has cast members from "Moonlight Resonance" such as Louise Lee, Elliot Yue, Chan Hung Lit and Lau Dan etc. The filming locations are also based around different countries including France, Tibet, Qing Tao and more others. Not only are there beautiful people and beautiful places. There is also a high class calculating storyline. Therefore it should be able to get high ratings. Unfortunately the series had been aired during the time of the financial crisis. The luxury life storyline has made viewers lose interest. In addition "Moonlight Resonance" had a climax for each episode. "The Gem of Life" has been dragged too long and may not be able to get a climax for each episode., making viewers not have the urge to continue.

What started off as a great plot has turn out to be draggy and i'm just continuing to watch the drama so as to find out the ending and hopefully the ending would turn out to be more satisfying with Sylvia and Calvin, Terrence and Constance ending up together. The drama will be ending soon in Hong Kong and the last episode should air in the mid of this month.
