2009 Chinese New Year in Beijing - Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City and Thai Cuisine

Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City form the cultural centre of Beijing. Tiananmen Square derives its name from the Tiananmen Gate, the entrance to the Forbidden City. The Square is also where Mao Zedong proclaimed the creation of the People's Republic of China in 1949.

Forbidden City:
Spanning 74 hectares, the Forbidden City is the world's largest palace and was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1987. It was the residence of Chinese emperors for over 500 years!!
I could not resist taking lot of pictures of the beautiful palaces :>
