The finale of TVB's grand production "The Gem of Life" was aired last Friday in Hong Kong, finale week's ratings unexpectedly was anti-climatic, it did not rise but fell, average ratings was only 29 points (approximately 1.84 million viewers). Compared to the week before, average ratings fell 1 point and lost 63,000 viewers. Last week ratings from Monday to Thursday were relatively low, only during Friday's finale did highest ratings peak at 35 points. Normally during the finale week of drama series the plot reaches a climax and ratings rise, but "The Gem of Life" ratings fell and could be considered a "breakthrough".
I have finally finished watching the ending of the drama on Sunday night and felt that the ending was not that great but still ok. I have read online that some viewers felt the ending was quite rushed and did not answer alot of questions and also they were unhappy with the open endings regarding the relationships between Will and Elise, Constance and Terrence and also whether Sunny will wake up from coma and if Jessica had caused the death of Martin. However i find the ending quite satisfactory although i only wished that the truth about Martin's death could be answered. I was quite pleased that Calvin finally aknowledged his love for Sylvia and asked her to wait for him to finish his prison sentence. The drama started off so well and what a pity it could not maintain the interesting and exciting plot to the end.
I feel that Moses Chan and Gigi Lai's characters really make a great couple in the drama. I really like Moses's character Terrence as he is not just a rich good looking guy but he also has his weaknesses unlike Gigi's character Constance who appears like a saint in the drama and her only weakness is being too innocent and constantly getting cheated by the guy she love. It is too bad that this will be the last time Moses and Gigi will appear together in a drama since she has retired. Gigi looks really beautiful and elegant throughout the drama. I also find the scene of their mother trying hard to hold the family together despite her suffering from memory losses in episode 81 to be real touching. I have found some more pictures of Constance and Terrence together in the drama online to share with fellow fans of the drama who also like the couple:
