My favourite episodes of "Into the Unknown With Josh Berstein"

I have watched all the episodes of "Into The Unknown With Josh Berstein" since it started showing on Discovery Channel and it has ended its run last week and i'm gonna miss looking forward to the show every Monday nights. I'm hoping that there will be another new season of the show and have not found any news yet online. I have enjoyed watching all the episodes and my favourite episodes are definitely the episode about the deadly conflict between elephants and humans which is escalating across Africa and the mummification practise of the Anga people of Papua New Guinea .

Josh had travelled to Kenya to try to understand the reasons why the elephants are attacking people more frequently in that elephant episode and i learnt more about the elephants from watching the show than a trip to the zoo. Although i do still enjoy my trips to the zoo ;> The last few years, elephants have been attacking people not only in Kenya but also in South Africa and India. In the show, it was suggested that the reason for the elephants attacks could be a form of revenge on human beings. I was so amazed to learn that elephants are able to live up to 90 years and they have great memory!! They are able to remember poachers killing their fellow elephants for their tusks even if it happened more than 40 years ago!! Elephants also mourn their dead ones like human beings and would linger around the dead bodies of elephants. It was also interesting to know that elephants are actually afraid of bees strung and the farmers in Kenya had used bees to protect elephant's from destroying their crops ;> It was really both educational and an eye opener watching that episode.

I was also fascinated with the mummification method shown for the episode on the Anga people of Papau New Guinea. In the past, the Anga people of Papua New Guinea revered their ancestors so deeply that they mummified their dead and refused to bury them. But this ritual hasn't been performed in over a half-century and the skills of this ancient rite may soon be lost forever. In a race against time, Josh lived with one of the most primitive tribes on Earth and becomes one of the first Westerners to ever witness their secret mummification process. I have never thought that i would get to see the actual mummification process (different from Egyptian mummification process as they do not have to remove the organs of the dead) although in the show the tribal chief had shown the mummification process using a dead pig instead of human being but it was still an eye-opener!! It was also touching how he wanted to preserve their tradition and teach his son the mummification process so that his son can help to fulfil his wish of preserving his body when he passes away and he can protect his tribe together with his ancestors up on the cliffs . For those who have missed the show, hopefully the library would get the DVD set soon and it would be available for those who are interested :> I'm still waiting for the library to get Season 3 of "Digging For The Truth" and it has been a really long wait.
