Hong Kong Drama - War of In-Laws 2 / 野蠻奶奶大戰戈師奶

Starhub Channel 55 is currently showing Season 2 of the popular Hong Kong period drama "War of In-Laws" starring Myolie Wu, Bosco Wong and Liza Wang every Monday to Friday, 9pm. Those who have cable tv should watch it as it is quite an entertaining drama and the main characters Myolie and Bosco makes a cute and funny couple.

Season 2 is a modern comedy sequel to the 2005 period comedy drama and was shown in Hong Kong in January 2008. The indirect sequel takes place in the modern era instead of the ancient setting of its prequel. I had watched the Cantonese version of the drama online few months ago and it is quite an enjoyable drama although i find the plot in season 1 better and funnier.

However i also enjoy watching season 2 as i like seeing Myolie Wu acting in a modern drama and she looks so pretty in her role as Chow Lai Man and wore alot of fashionable clothings in the drama. Liza Wang will reprise her role as the sassy and mean mother-in-law Ophelia who is the editor of a popular fashion magazine.

Ophelia will never save face for her superiors, nor will she come to the defense of her subordinates. She shows no mercy to her enemies and does everything she can to keep her son Kyle under her thumb. She is an iron lady who can't afford to lose anything. As she is still full of confidence that she can determine her son's future life, a plain, geeky-looking girl named Chow Lai Man has already managed to become the wife of Kyle.

Ophelia's character and workplace is quite similiar to the movie "Devil Wears Prada". Myolie Wu acts as tomboyish police officer Chow Lai Man who becomes romantically involved with Liza's son Kyle portrayed by Bosco Wong, a rich pretty boy in disguise. Lai Man ended up working for Ophelia after her marriage to Kyle and transforms to a beautiful and fashionable woman to please Ophelia. Actress Joyce Tang stars as Coco, Ophelia's assistant who always bullies and sabotage Lai Man at work. Derek Kwok stars as CC Wong a fashion designer who always help Lai Man and does not think well of Coco but ended up as her love interest. The pairing up of Coco and CC was quite comical and makes the drama even more watchable.

I also like the song "Thankful to Meet You" sung by Myolie and Bosco in the drama which is featured in her debut album "Evolve". I have included the MV of the song which i found from youtube.com below. In the drama Vivien Yeo also stars as Athena, Kyle's ex-girlfriend who kept trying to come between Lai Man and Kyle as she regrets dumping him in the past. It is up to Ophelia to try to keep her family from tearing apart.
