The Shop On Blossom Street - Debbie Macomber

I have recently finished reading this novel that i borrowed from Bishan library and really enjoyed the book. I was searching for Debbie Macomber's other book, 16 Lighthouse Road (Cedar Cove, Book 1) and chanced upon this book. I enjoyed following the main character Lydia's journey to opening her shop and learning to "live" again and finding new friends from her knitting class. It was very sweet and heartwarming how the characters in the knitting class ended up bonding with each other and turning into an informal support group without their realising it and how they support each other through their emotional turmoils and crisis. The writer really did a great job of linking all the characters together and providing a nice twist and good ending to the story. The story goes that there's a little yarn shop on Blossom Street in Seattle. It's owned by Lydia Hoffman, and it represents her dream of a new life free from cancer. A life that offers a chance at love...

Lydia teaches knitting to beginners, and the first class is "How To Make a Baby Blanket." Three women join. Jacqueline Donovan wants to knit something for her grandchild as a gesture of reconciliation with her daughter-in-law. Carol Girard feels that the baby blanket is a message of hope as she makes a final attempt to conceive. And Alix Townsend is knitting her blanket for a court-ordered community service project. These four very different women, brought together by an age-old craft, make unexpected discoveries --- about themselves and each other. Discoveries that lead to friendship and more...

This is the first book to the Blossom Street Series books and there are 3 more books (A Good Yarn, Back On Blossom Street and Twenty Wishes) which follows Lydia's journey to meeting new friends through her yarn shop and how they continue to support each other through the knitting classes. I can't wait to get my hands on all the other books and start reading :> Those interested in the series can find out more about the story from the writer's website: http://www.debbiemacomber.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=books&pageID=5

The Blossom Street series is one of my favorite series by this author. She brings women together with one common thread. Literally! and again and again teaches the gift of friendship. This novel is based on a wonderful idea of 20 Wishes and brings joy and love to women who have each suffered unbearable sorrow.
