Music For The Heart

(Source: Shape Magazine (CAN/USA) September 2008 edition)

Setting your radio to the smooth jazz station may do your ticker some good. A new study from Italy's University of Florence found that people who listened to mellow tunes while breathing slowly (inhaling for a count of one, exhaling for 2) for half an hour everyday lowered their blood pressure after a month. The combination of the music and belly breaths may reduce your body's level of stress hormones, which in turns improves blood flow, says researchers. Make this a habit by playing soothing songs when you return from work each day.
