"The Sunday Times" 29th March 2009 edition featured eateries offering cheap but tasty set lunches during the weekdays and i was tempted to try out Bistro Delifrance's set meal after reading the food review by the writer. My favourite place for cheap and yummy set lunches is usually at "Cafe Cartel" at Bishan Junction 8 as i only have to pay S$9.50 for its set meals of free flow of home made bread, main course, drink, soup of the day and dessert. I went to the Delifrance branch at Northpoint last week after swimming to try out its Creamy Mushroom Spaghetti with Chipolata set meal for only $9.30 inclusive of taxes and service charge. The main course for the set meal changes daily like "Cafe Cartel" but the differences is that Delifrance offers 2 choices of main courses at $7.90 and $11.90. Delifrance's set meals are available from 11.30am-10pm during the weekdays unlike Cafe Cartel's set lunches which are available only from 11.30am-2.30pm weekdays.
The meal at Delifrance starts with a mushroom soup and i like the generous servings of mushroom but the soup tasted too salty. The Spaghetti also tastes not bad and i like the yummy mushroom but i hate the Chipolata and prefers normal sausage or ham anytime. Dessert was a small piece of marble cake with chocolate sauce and i prefer the dessert at "Cafe Cartel" which tastes nicer. The meal ended with a nice cup of hot tea accompanied by a tiny cookie. It is definitely a great place for a nice and yummy lunch after a great workout :> and i'm gonna go back again to try out its other main course.
