I Love The Flaky Teochew 'Oor Nee' Mooncake @ Peony Jade Restaurant :>

I was at the mooncake fair at Yishun Northpoint (till 21 September, level 1 outside Bonia) on Monday and there are various choices of mooncakes to choose from (717 Durian ~ Baker's Cottage ~ Bakerzin ~ Chinatown (Da Zhong Guo) ~ Fairmont Singapore ~ Four Seasons Durians ~ Fragrance Foodstall ~ Gim Tim ~ Holiday Inn ~ Home's Favourite ~ Hung Fai ~ Peony Jade ~ SDS ~ The Regent ~ Yang Hua ~ Yu Ai).

I have been wanting to buy a box of The Original Ex-Crown Prince Flaky Teochew 'Oor Nee' Mooncake from Peony Jade Restaurant after reading about how delicious and popular it is online and in the newspaper and magazines. This delightful treat is created by Chef Soh Yiak Eng, who was previously from the Crown Prince Hotel’s mooncake team, and pioneered the original yam paste mooncake. I have never been a fan of Teochew style mooncake and always prefers the traditional lotus paste mooncake but decided to give it a try this year as i'm curious if it is as yummy as described in the reviews and also because i'm a yam paste lover :>  It costs S$46/- for a box of 4 'Oor Nee' mooncakes with single yolk and i paid S$41.40/- after 15% discount for Citibank credit card holders. OCBC credit card holders are entitled to 20% discount. I was not disappointed after trying out the mooncake as the yam paste filling is perfect, not too dry or sweet and really leaves me craving for more! The only down side is the flaky pastry, as it can get a little messy when you eat unlike the traditional mooncake.  I'm tempted to get another box during this weekend so that i can eat it during the Mid-Autumn festival on the 22nd next Wednesday.
