Japanese Drama - Rinjo

This drama seems quite interesting and premiered April 15 in Japan on TV Asahi, Wednesday 9:00pm time slot. "Rinjo," a novel by "Climber's High" author Hideo Yokoyama, has been adapted into this live-action series on TV Asahi. First published in 2004, "Rinjo" revolves around Yoshio Kuraishi, a legendary coroner with a keen eye for evidence, played by Uchino. The term "rinjo" is said to be police slang for the initial investigation carried out at the scene of the crime. Masaaki Uchino stars as Kuraishi, a coroner known for his keen powers of observation and his thorough investigations. Uchino's supporting cast includes Yuki Matsushita, Masanobu Takashima, and Dai Watanabe.

In the first case of the series, a man and woman are found dead in an apartment. Kuraishi asks apprentice coroner Ichinose (Dai Watanabe) for his opinion, and Ichinose concludes that the presence of hydrogen cyanide on the woman suggests a forced double suicide. However, Kuraishi presses him, asking questions such as "Why did she commit the crime last night?"

When Ichinose replies that a coroner's job is simply to determine the cause of death, Kuraishi rebukes him and immediately heads off to the next case with his assistant Rumi (Yuki Matsushita). There, they find a man dead in his basement, and Kuraishi declares it a suicide, but detective Tachihara (Masanobu Takashima) insists that the evidence points to murder...Those interested in the drama can also watch it online at (http://www.mysoju.com/rinjo/).
