Day 5 (17 Feb 08) Pictures of Taegi Mountain, Skiing and Hanwha Resort Phoenix Park

We had buffet breakfast at 7am at Seorak Hanwha Resort before checking out and proceeding to a skiing shop to rent and change into our skiing clothes.

Skiing lesson, equipment and attire were provided under our tour package and we only had to rent gloves. Before going skiing, we first took a scenic gondola ride up the snowy Taegi Mountain (1050m above sea level) to enjoy and take pictures of the breathtaking sights that the Hanwha Resort Phoenix Park resort has to offered.

For lunch, we went to a restuarant for dumpling steamboat and it was very delicious and healthy. I like the dumpling steamboat so much that i cooked a similiar version for dinner tonight! After lunch we checked in to Hanwha Resort Phoenix Park where we would spend the night. We left our luggage in the room before going out.

We then proceeded for our skiing experience. Our tour guide taught us how to ski. The ski resort, which is proud of its excellent quality of snow, has valley-type slopes that made the best use of natural topography of Taegi Mountain. The resort is conveniently located at the base of the mountain, so the guests have easy access to the ski slopes. We were given almost half a day to ski and it was really an exciting and fun experience. Initially I was afraid of falling down while skiing but it was not painful at all. The only problem was I had difficulty getting up when I fall as the ski boots were very heavy. I tried several times to get up on my own when I fall but I just can’t. It was also very tiring carrying the skis as it was very heavy but overall I still enjoy the skiing experience :> I really envy the Koreans for being able to ski as and when they like with the ski resorts so near. Also after getting used to the cold weather in Korea, it was actually nicer than the hot weather in Singapore.

We went back to our room after skiing as we only had to gather in the resort lobby in the evening for dinner and there was still about 2 hours left. Hubby and I really like our room as it comes with a great view of Taegi Mountain and the furnishings were much nicer than the previous resort. We went down to the lobby early and bought a cup of coffee from the convenience store. The coffee tastes very nice and i also had some time to write my journal while waiting for our tour members.

We had BBQ pork for dinner and returned to the resort. Hubby and i chosed to sleep on the heated floor using the matresses instead of the bed as we slept very well the previous night on the floor. One of our tour members had even placed his washed soaks on the heated floor and it really dried faster. I also tried and it works haha
