The first thing hubby and i did on the first day of 2008 is to finish watching the final episode of this popular 2006 Korean historical drama "Jumong". Jumong was the founder of Goguryeo in 37 BC. He was the son of General
Hae Mo Su and Lady Yoo Hwa, and was raised by King Geum Wa who took him
and his mother in when Hae Mo Su was believed to have been killed in an
ambush by the Han Dynasty. So Seo No was a merchant's daughter who
helped Jumong in realizing his dream to build a new country, and later
became his second wife. You can read more about its plot at (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumong_%28TV_series%29).
Hubby and i have been following this fast paced drama for the
past few months and it is really the best korean drama i have watched in
2007. The plot was really exciting and there was a total of 81 episodes (originally set for 60 episodes and MBC extended it due to its popularity)
and we really enjoyed and looked forward to watching each and every
episode. It was so interesting and exciting following Jumong's slow
transformation from a spoilt and naive young prince to someone who feels
for the suffering of his people and went through a lot of hardship to
fulfil the goal of his late father Xie Mu Shu to deliver his people from
the hardship of the Han dynasty. Watching the drama also makes me more
interested in the history of Korea in that era.
(SPOILER ALERT!!)
My favourite character initially was the main character of the drama Jumong (Song Il Gook) but towards the end of the story my favourite character changed to Jumong's love interest So Seo-no (Han Hye Jin). I was really touched by her deep love for Jumong and she really went through alot for Jumong so that he could fulfil his goal of establishing his own country. She had a chance of ruling the country but gave it up for Jumong. It was very sad that she had to end up leaving Jumong out of love for him and her own 2 sons. She was afraid that Jumong would be caught in a difficult position (power struggle) between his own natural son and So Seo-no's 2 sons with her first husband. Luckily for her, she and her 2 sons also found a country of their own in the end.
The drama is still showing on Starhub Channel 55 every mon-fri 6.40pm. For those who have missed the drama, Blue Max is selling the complete DVD set for only $39.90 and the image is very clear. Do watch it if you are feeling bored as it is guaranteed to be a super entertaining drama :>
