Korean Drama On Air

I spent 1 whole night watching Korean Drama "On Air" as the last few episodes were so nice and entertaining that i just couldn't bring myself to go to sleep and continue the next morning. This new drama started showing in Korea in March 2008 and has just ended in May 2008 and is about the behind the scenes of TV drama production. "On Air" is directed by Shin Woo-chul and written by Kim Eun-suk, the creators of hit dramas "Lovers in Paris" (2004), "Lovers in Prague"(2005) and "Lovers" (2006). They teamed up again to give an exclusive behind-the-scenes view of Korean dramas. The drama is also known for many cameo appearances. The list of cameos includes queen of Cannes Jeon Do-yeon, K-pop diva Lee Hyo-ri, Kang Hae-jung of the movie ``Herb'' (2007), Um Ji-won of ``Scout'' (2007), Kim Min-jun, who starred in Shin and Kim's 2005 drama ``Lovers in Prague,'' and K-pop group F.T. Island.

This drama also portrays how the whole production team and performers complete a project in a tight schedule and as well as how actors, actresses, and entertainment agencies handle rumors surrounding them. Jang Ki Joon (Lee Bum Soon) is a manager who is in charge of the activities of many famous actors and actresses. One of them is Oh Seung Ah (Kim Ha Neul) who is a rising actress. In addition to the haughty actress, Kim plays a 25-year-old woman whose mental age is only seven in the drama-within-a-drama "Ticket to the Moon". Lee Kyung Min (Park Yong Ha)is a drama producer/director and works with all of the characters above. Seo Young Eun (Song Yoon Ah) is a mean and fussy TV scriptwriter with a Midas touch and a young son.

I finished watching the whole drama at 11am this morning! My favourite scene is the end of episode 19 and beginning of episode 20 hehe where my 2 favourite characters (the director and script writer) finally kissed... i watched the whole night just to reach that scene where finally they revealed their feelings for each other! It was so sweet watching them slowly developing feelings for each other. This drama is a must watch for all fans of Korean Drama as it gives viewers a better picture of drama making and how much effort goes into each drama production. I also like the soundtrack and has been listening the whole day :>

When i first watched the drama, it was abit draggy but started getting interesting around episode 12 when the 4 main characters went to Taiwan for filming. The scene at Jiufen in Taiwan also reminds me of my trip there 2 years ago with hubby. It was also raining as in the scene and i also tried the local dessert which was shown in the drama. Watching the drama makes me feel like going Jiufen again hehe...

Initially i like the character of Oh Seung Ah as an arrogant topnotch actress as it was quite interesting watching her being nasty to the people around her so as to protect herself but after watching about half of the drama i found myself drawn to the characters of the script writer Seo Young Eun, for her frank and sometimes childlike/childish character. The director Lee Kyung Min was also a very cool character and i was initially left confused as to who he really likes, as it seems that he had feelings for the actress and also the scriptwriter and i was hoping that he would like the script writer as they make such a cute pairing in the drama. The last time i watched Song Yoon Ah was in the drama "Hotelier" and her character this time is so much different. She is sometimes bitchy and at times childlike and it was such a joy watching the acting of Song Yoon Ah.

Park Yong Ha really did a great job portraying Lee Kyung Min as i did not really find him attractive in "Winter Sonata" but he was so charismatic in this drama and i really enjoy watching his acting. I read online that his popularity has soared in recent months due to the success of "On Air" on SBS and he plans to release his sixth single album in Japan in July.

Hi Lady Jan,

I forgot when I watched On Air. Probably in July on pps.tv

I thoroughly enjoyed your post on it. You mentioned most of the stuff that I liked about the drama too.

I was rooting for the script writer. She became so lovable when she tried to do her best to keep the project alive.

I also liked the part where both tried to connect with the other's family members.

I didn't watched the drama in one sitting but the last few episodes were done in 1 sitting.

I also found the beginning a bit draggy. Luckily I know 2 out of 4 of the actors and were willing to let the story developed. Goes to show how important casting is.

I recently finished a Japanese drama known as The Forest Clock. Wrote about it at my blog. Do visit if you have time.
