Korean Drama - Take Care Of Us, Captain

I love this latest SBS drama which is currently showing in Korea every Wednesdays and Thursdays since 4 January 2012. I have been watching it online at (http://www.mysoju.com/korean-drama/take-care-of-us-captain/) and i find this drama quite entertaining and its interesting that the drama focuses on the airport and the life of the people working there. The pairing of Jin Ji Hee and Goo Hye Sun is also refreshing and it was funny seeing the always serious character of Jin Ji Hee interacting with Goo Hye Sun's funny and daredevil character in the show. I have always enjoy watching actor Jin Ji Hee's dramas and its a pity the drama's ratings have not been doing well in Korea as they faces strong challenge from period drama "The Moon That Embraces The Sun" which is getting good ratings and reviews. The only fault i can find with the drama is that it takes too long for the main leads to start having feelings for each other and gets draggy at times and i cannot stand the always angry look of the airline directer towards Jin Ji Hee's character which i find too exaggerating and extreme. Goo Hye Sun as the female lead has also faced some criticism that her acting in previous dramas such as "The King and I" and "Boys Over Flowers" seems to be the same.

However i feel that its not her fault or that she is a bad actress but because the characters in the dramas that she acted in are always similar in nature and Goo Hye Sun may have to be more careful when selecting her future roles as she is always portraying characters that are positive in nature and will strive for the best despite the difficulties she faces. Before she started in this drama, she stated, "I know people say that i look the same in every drama. They might get sick of the same type of character that is portrayed through myself every time." Then she was asked why she chose this particular role that seems so similar once again. To that she answered, "I wanted to hear, "If Goo Hye Sun is in the drama, it will be piece of work that is filled with dreams and hope."

"Take Care Of Us, Captain" began filming with location shoots in Australia and unfolds around the character growth, careers, and romances of those working at the Incheon International Airport. The drama portrays the passion and life of airline workers, as well as the friendships between the four main characters. Koo Hye Sun portraits a pilot, Han Da Jin, co-captaining a Boeing 747. Da Jin is a girl who’s not only lovely, but confident and determined to take care and bring happiness to her only sister. She always tries to stay positive despite the hardships she faces in her life. Ji Jin Hee's character Kim Yoon Sung is a captain and he and head flight attendant, Choi Ji Won played by Yoo Sun, used to be lovers and parted ways and has to live with hidden pains after an accident involving Da Jin's family. Lee Cheon Hee plays a talented and ambitious air traffic controller who is in love with Da Jin. Clara Lee plays the role of Hong Mi Joo, a tough ‘Wings Air’ managing director of business strategy who is in love with Yoon Sung and dislikes Da Jin for being close to Yoon Sung and Ji Won for fighting with her for Yoon Sung.

Leading actors for the drama "Take Care of Us, Captain", Goo Hye Sun and Ji Jin Hee, spoke about why they decided to partake in the drama. Goo Hye Sun replied, “Around July August I was filming a drama ‘He Never’ in Taiwan, when the director gave me the synopsis and script for ‘Take Care of Us, Captain’. I thought the script was a lot of fun. The director told me that he wanted to cast me, but he personally came all the way to Taiwan. The director had a lot of enthusiasm for the drama”. Ji Jin Hee added, “I also decided to do this drama after seeing how enthusiastic the director was”.

The drama’s CP, Kim Young Sup, also revealed a surprising cost about their aviation set. “We brought parts from overseas and created an airplane set ourselves. The cockpit cabin and the air flight control tower alone, cost about 8 million won (roughly $7000)”.

On January 3rd, the cast of the drama attended the press conference for their drama at the SBS studio in Mok-dong, Seoul.

Boy Group B1A4 were given the opportunity to sing its main title track, a position not often given to rookie idol groups. Producers felt that B1A4 would fit admirably, and so they gave them the song ‘Sky‘, which airs with the drama’s pilot episode on January 4th. Co-produced by composer Jo Min Sung and director Louie (who’s known for his work with the ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal‘ OST), ‘Sky’ creates a synergistic effect with B1A4′s sweet voices and the drama’s sky high theme. Secret‘s main vocalist, Song Ji Eun sings the theme song "It’s Cold" and i find it a really lovely song and have been listening to the song on my iPhone. The song depicts a story of a girl who has to let her lover go, in order to protect him from being hurt. The sad, but sweet lyrics are sung to a slow and harmonious melody.

"Take Care of Us, Captain" follows Han Da Jin in her attempts to become a pilot ...

The first episode shows Kim Yoon Sung who is excited that he is flying as co-pilot with a legendary Captain Han Gyu Pil (Kim Chang-Wan). One of the passengers on the plane is Han Da Jin's pregnant mother. She is flying to San Francisco to attend Han Da Jin's graduation ceremony from a flight training school.

While the plane is making its way across the Pacific Ocean, the Captain leaves the cockpit to go to the restroom. Co-Pilot Kim Yoon Sung is left alone in the cockpit. When Kim Yoon Sung reaches for something, he accidentally hits a lever. This causes the autopilot to become disengaged. Kim Yoon Sung pulls on the yoke toward him and tries to get the airplane leveled. He manages to get the plane flying safely again.

Meanwhile, in the cabin, Da Jin's pregnant mother asks flight attendant Choi Ji Won, who is working her first flight, to take her to the restroom. At this time, a star passenger (guest appearance by actor Jung Gyu Woon) calls for flight attendant Choi Ji Won. Ji Won turns around and attends to the star passenger. Da Jin's pregnant mother goes to the restroom alone. While Da Jin's mother is in the restroom, the airplane suddenly rolls heavily. Da Jin's mother bumps against the bathroom. She then collapses on the floor of the restroom. After the plane settles down,  Jin Won becomes worried about the pregnant passenger and goes to the restroom to check on her. Jin Won finds the passenger on the restroom floor. She helps the woman back to her seat and covers the passenger with a blanket. She discovers to her horror that the pregnant passenger has blood on her skirt but tells herself that she will be fine after some rest and did not raise an alert.

A little bit later, Ji Won goes back to the pregnant woman and this time finds her unconscious and covered with blood. Ji Won is shocked and shouts for help. Other flight attendants move the pregnant woman to a camp bed. There are no doctors on board the flight. A baby girl is born on the camp bed. Ji Won goes to get a pair of scissors and gives it to the head flight attendant. The chief flight attendant said to Ji Won, "you did of course disinfect the scissors right," and proceeds to cut the umbilical cord. Ji Won is dumbfounded as she had forgotten to disinfect the scissors and she had fallen down earlier. She can't say anything, but just watch. After giving birth, the passenger becomes unconscious again and the bleeding does not stop.

The Captain hears of the situation and checks to see which airport they should make an emergency landing at. The nearest airport is in Anchorage, but the weather there would make the landing risky. Captain Han Gyu Pil tells co-pilot Yoon Sung that they should make an emergency landing at the San Francisco airport. Yoon Sung opposes the decision as he feels that she will not survive the flight there and asks Captain Han what if the pregnant woman was part of his family? Captain Han Gyu Pil replies that the pregnant woman is indeed his wife, but the collective lives of the 300 other passengers are more important.

Han Da Jin's mother ended up dead and her new born baby sister in serious condition with septicemia. At the funeral for Da Jin's mother,nJi Won cries and beg for forgiveness from Da Jin and her father andnYoon Sung cries from a distance. Later that night, a drunken Yoon Sung waits in front of Captain Han Gyu Pil's home. Captain Han Gyu Pil then takes a walk with him by the home's garden. Yoon Sung tells Captain Han Gyu-Pil that he still can't understand his decision not to save his wife and that he does not want to fly anymore. Yoon Sung then leaves.

The next day, Han Da Jin asks her father what her mother meant to him. She also tells him that her mother was also his passenger. On the way from his wife's grave, Captain Han GyuPil receives a text message from his daughter apologizing for what she said. Captain Han GyuPil pulls over his car to reply back to her, but a truck then hits his parked car. Captain Han Gyu Pil dies from the collision. Now, Han Da Jin is left alone with her sick younger baby sister. Yoon Sung leaves South Korea without knowing that Captain Han GyuPil has died.

Seven years later, Han Da Jin is now a co-pilot and has a hard time juggling with work and taking care of her often sick sister. She is excited to hear that she will fly with well-regarded Captain Kim Yoon Sung. On their first flight together, Da Jin makes some mistakes and Yoon Sung does not have a good impression of her. Yoon Sung believes that Da Jin does not have the qualities of being a competent pilot, but Da Jin thinks otherwise. He does not recognize that Da Jin is Captain Han Gil Pyu's daughter and the 2 of them do not get along at the beginning as he cannot stand Da Jin getting emotional and personal while in the cockpit and ignoring the safety of the 300 passengers on board the airplane. He is always scolding Da Jin and telling her that she is not fit to be a pilot and refuses to fly with her.

Da Jin and Yoon Sung gets caught in a love triangle with Kang Dong Soo who is an air traffic controller at Incheon International Airport with seven years of experience under his belt. He’s prickly and cool, but possesses a cute, playful side that sometimes crops up. Choi Ji Won also ended up in the same airline as cabin manager and she and Yoon Sung are still haunted by the past and cannot forgive themselves for causing the death of Da Jin's mother and her sister being ill for the rest of her life. Ji Won hopes to get back together with Yoon Sung and although he still has feelings for her, he is unable to resume their relationship as he cannot forget what happened in the past. Da Jin recognizes Ji Won as the air stewardess who causes the death of her mother and illness of her sister and shakes with fury at the sight of her and refuses to be on the same flight as her. Yoon Sung could not understand her behavior and calls her irresponsible and unprofessional and Ji Won could not bear to reveal the truth to him. He scolded Da Jin and told her she should leave all personal feelings behind when she comes up to the cockpit, but if she can't, then it's best that she quit.

Yoon Sung appears as very rational and a perfectionist, and is always scolding Da Jin and being very strict with her but he's actually a humanist who has a soft heart. He coincidentally saw Da Jin at the cemetery when he went to visit Captain Han's grave. It was only then that he found out with shock that Da Jin was Captain Han's daughter. He felt even guiltier when he stumbles upon a drunk Da Jin drinking to forget the pain after visiting the cemetery. Yoon Sung appeared in front of Da Jin and piggy-backed her home as she couldn't stand on her own feet. Very softly, he mumbled, "Sorry", and asked for forgiveness in his heart. Painfully, Yoon Sung remembered the time when he was an amateur pilot, when he caused the airplane to shake and the situation caused Da Jin's mother who was pregnant, to die. He had decided to quit but ended up deciding to stay and help Da Jin achieve her dream of being a captain by keeping an eye on her and mentoring her.

Yoon Sung also helped Da Jin's aunt to clear her debts to the annoyance of Dong Soo who had also wanted to help Da Jin as he likes her. Da Jin gradually comes to care for and rely on Yoon Sung as they worked together. 

Ji Won notices that Yoon Sung has also started to care about Da Jin and they seemed to be getting along really well.  She starts getting jealous and upset and decided to take the initiative to get back together with Yoon Sung in episode 9. She also declare her intention to Mi Joo and refuse to back off even when Mi Joo threatens her. She deliberately reveals to Da Jin about her past relationship with Yoon Sung to drive her off and tries various ways to stake her territory and prevent Da Jin and Yoon Sung from falling for each other as she refuses to give up Yoon Sung.

Dong Soo is also frustrated with Da Jin for only looking at Yoon Sung and he tried to kiss her. He is hurt when Da Jin insisted that they can only be good friends and she has no feeling for him. He is aware that Da Jin likes Yoon Sung but he refuses to give up his feelings for Da Jin. Yoon Sung felt jealousy when Da Jin's sister unknowingly reveals that Dong Soo and Da Jin had kissed. He was in shock after he found out. He put out useless slander to her while flying, "I don't think Kang Dong Soo has very good drinking manners". Not noticing what he meant, Da Jin said, "That has nothing to do with flying". This made Yoon Sung even angrier. He said, "Of course, you guys even kissed" exposing his jealousy and laughing. With this, the love triangle between Da Jin, Yoon Sung, Ji-won and Dong Soo has officially started. What will happen when Da Jin finds out the truth about Yoon Sung's past.....
