I was really impressed with the new international terminal at Haneda Airport as it offers travelers and visitors a wide variety of things to do and see while awaiting departure. I spent some time exploring the airport and loves its stylist design and the interesting Edo Market Place. Taking its title from Tokyo's former name, the floors were designed based on the theme "Made in Japan: Haneda's Only One." The colorful Edo Market Place features made-in-Japan clothing shops and restaurants serving sushi, sukiyaki, tonkatsu, ramen, and kushiage at reasonable prices. Walking along Edo Koji, a shopping corridor on the fourth floor modeled after a typical Edo Period street, is like being in a theme park rather than an airport terminal! Shops line the corridor selling goods related to Japanese tradition and culture, including cosmetics, T-shirts, bags and local food products.
Meanwhile, on the fifth floor the focus is on Japan's modern culture. Named Tokyo Pop Town, half of the floor is occupied by shops selling goods of popular anime characters, teen idols, TV and movie stars, toys and figurines. The other half of the floor is the world's first planetarium-cafe in an airport, Planetarium Starry Cafe. The domed ceiling of the cafe allows 40 million stars to be projected from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m, during which an admission fee is charged. From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the facility is open as a cafe and it becomes a bar from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. During the cafe and bar time, video programs will be screened showing landscapes of destination cities from Haneda and relaxing images of nature, planets, constellations and galaxies, all on the domed screen for a 360-degree view.
I also love the cool rooftop observatory deck on level 4 which offers a clear view of Tokyo Bay and planes taking off!!! I wish i could have more time there taking pictures. What a pity our flight was early and most of the shops and restaurants were not opened yet and i could not shop around. I will definitely travel by Haneda Airport instead of Narita if i were to go Japan next time as it is so convenient and i can also shop and dine at the interesting Edo Market Place :> Hopefully i will be able to go back to Tokyo soon....i had so much fun during this trip :)
